There is much more to using your candle than just lighting the wick! You need to properly maintain your candle to insure that you will get the most out of your purchase. There are many rules of thumb you should consider BEFORE lighting your candle for the very first time.
If you only follow one precaution, let it be this: NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE BURNING UNATTENDED!!
A burning candle, regardless of whether it is soy, paraffin or gel can be a fire hazard. Let's face it folks, it's an open flame! So use your common sense and don't place your candle near or on top of any flammable objects! ALWAYS burn your candle on a heat resistant surface. And NEVER, EVER leave a candle burning when you leave or go to sleep! Would you leave your home or go to bed with your stove on? I would hope not! So after lighting your candle, if you're gonna walk away, put it out.
Avoid excessive smoke and soot! Keep your candles out of drafts and the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch. Drafts and long burning wicks cause the candle to smoke which could result in damage. Frequent trimming of the wick also eliminates burned pieces of the wick falling into your candle. We do not recommend blowing a candle to extinguish it as this causes smoking. Instead take your wick dipper or a pair of tweezers and dip the wick into the meltpool. This will put the flame out instantly without smoking.
Never move your candle when the wax is hot! When wax is in it's liquid state, the container and the wax can be hot. Extra special caution must be used if your candle is gel, since the meltpoint of gel is much higher than that of soy or paraffin. Touching the container or possibly spilling the gel may cause burns.
You must let your candle rest! Do NOT burn your candle for more than 4 hours at one time, less if your candle is double glassed. Burning for longer periods could stress the glass resulting in cracking or breakage of the glass container.
Do NOT continue to burn your candle when 1/2 inch or less of wax remains. Do NOT try to remove the wick stop from your candles! This can cause overheating of the glass container which could result in breakage.
Your candle may resemble a food or drink item, so PLEASE keep out of reach of children and pets.
Failure to follow these simple guidelines could result in fire and/or injury. Creative Candles & Gifts assumes no responsibility for damages or injury due to customer negligence.
